C-mount camera sensors can now see in color

The device series has been enhanced with a crucial feature

About two years ago, ipf electronic presented for the first time its OC53 camera sensor series (OptiCheck) with C-mount lens connection for use in complex applications. In time for the Hanover fair, these solutions have now been enhanced with the OC539820 und OC539821 devices that make color evaluation possible.

For tasks that require a variable operating distance or various dimensions and illumination of the lens coverage, we offer the camera sensors with a C-mount lens. The option to choose a lens adapted to the application, and easy control of external illumination through the built-in flash controller, promise a high degree of versatility and universal flexibility of application in this regard.

This flexibility is now complemented by a key feature. Besides the already known test functions and tools of the device series with C-mount lens, OC539820 und OC539821 now allow to perform color evaluations, and more precisely color specification and color arrangements.

There are many examples of potential areas of use, such as in the electrical industry for processing ribbon cable connectors. In that area, the color recognition of the new camera sensors could for ex-ample help to verify that the wire cables marked in different colors are correctly connected to the ded-icated contacts. Other good examples are applications which require color evaluation of label or adhe-sive label imprints (as product designation or information plates).

Since the color evaluation in the recent camera sensors complements the previous feature checks, for example in the fields of geometry, comparison, etc., it offers additional interesting fields of application particularly for highly automated automotive industry, since now an additional color test, e.g. of as-semblies and components, can be performed using one device.

Both new camera sensors are enclosed in an aluminum housing of IP67 protection class (with a pro-tective lens housing). They can be used in a temperature range from +5°C to +50°C. Both are vibra-tion resistant in accordance with IEC 60068-2-6 and IEC 60068-2-64, and shockproof according to IEC 60068-2-27. While OC539820 features a CCD image recorder with 640 x 480 pixels, OC539821 has an integrated CCD image recorder with 1280 x 960 pixels.
