Two laser systems with special features


At this year's Motek trade fair, ipf electronic will be presenting two laser systems: a laser distance sensor for fast and precise positioning tasks over large distances and a diffuse reflection laser sensor that can detect even minute objects with a high level of accuracy.


The laser distance sensor PT730520 with its range of up to 20m and a repeat accuracy of 2mm (repeat accuracy of 1mm at up to 10m) is ideal for extremely precise positioning tasks over large distances. As the device operates on the basis of light propagation time technology, no reflector is necessary.


The PT730520 with integrated OLED bicolor display provides the possibility of background and foreground suppression. This feature together with the robust zinc diecast housing with degree of protection IP67, high shock resistance up to 30G and an operating temperature range from -15 °C to +50 °C makes the laser distance sensor ideal for use in demanding industrial applications with extremely hostile environmental conditions above and beyond those encountered in the automotive industry. Potential fields of application for the PT730520 are, for example, automated warehouses, freight elevators, production facilities, packaging machines, commercial vehicles, crane positioning systems, and many more besides.


In addition to a freely scalable analog output (current or voltage), the laser distance sensor has two separate, configurable switching outputs (push-pull) as well as an RS 485 interface for bidirectional data transmission. Via a multi-function input, the device can also be taught and, if necessary, the laser deactivated.


Reliable detection of minute objects

A high repeat accuracy of up to 10μm and a linearity deviation of just ±0.1% of the full scale make the diffuse reflection laser sensor PT44 the ideal solution for monitoring the presence of minute objects or for detecting the overlapping of extremely thin materials.

Owing to their variety of functions and the extremely compact aluminum housing with protection class IP67, the diffuse reflection sensors can be integrated very simply in all manner of production processes.


The 4-digit display of the diffuse reflection sensors shows the measured distance values and is used for menu navigation during configuration. Many different options such as time function, window function or maximum/minimum function can be set up using three function buttons.

In addition to a selectable digital and analog output (0 to 5V DC), the devices offer an external input for triggering, for regulating the laser power or for setting the zero point.


At present, ipf electronic offers the diffuse reflection laser sensors in three different versions with measuring ranges from 25 to 35mm, 35 to 65mm and 65 to 135mm as well as a beam diameter of 10 to 70μm. From spring 2016, the PT44 series will include additional devices with extended measuring ranges.
