Compressed air is a valuable and therefore expensive resource, but it is often wasted in many companies due to unnoticed leaks in consumption networks. Even if unusually high consumption levels can be identified by using flow meters, for example, the actual leak in the compressed air network has not yet been precisely localized.  As leaks result in unnecessarily high additional annual costs, it is worth investing in the UY000002 or UY000003. leak detectors. By locating and eliminating leaks, up to 42 percent of the total consumption costs in compressed air systems can be saved. In this context, the UY000003  can even visualize leaks for precise location and complete documentation.

 

 

Both devices are also suitable for use on gas, steam and vacuum systems as well as steam traps, seals and connections.

 

HOW DOES LEAK DETECTION WORK?

Compressed air escaping from a leak generates, among other things, inaudible ultrasonic waves. If the sound funnel of one of the leak detectors is pointed at a suspected leak, the ultrasonic waves generated by the leak are bundled, recorded with a microphone (in the UY000003 with 30 digital MEMS microphones), converted into audible frequencies and transmitted to headphones. This makes it easy to locate leaks even in noisy industrial environments.

An additional laser pointer with distance measurement integrated in the sound funnel facilitates, among other things, the precise localization of a leak and also makes it possible to determine the cost per leak using the time-of-flight measurement in combination with the intensity of the ultrasonic signal received by the device, if the corresponding generation costs for the compressed air have previously been stored in the device. The image of the leakage point generated by the camera, which is also installed in the acoustic funnel, is shown on the touch color display of the detector. The image can be saved in the leak detector with all the information required to eliminate the leak.

Make leaks visible!

The special sound funnel AU000030 or the so-called UltraCam of the UY000003 is the main distinguishing feature from the sound funnel AU000026 of the UY000002. In addition to a laser pointer and a camera, the UltraCam integrates a total of 30 MEMS microphones. The intensity distribution of the ultrasonic signal generated by the leak is recorded by these microphones, converted into a false colour display by the leak detector and visualized in the camera image on the touch colour display.

 

 

As an additional option for locating leaks, the device converts the inaudible ultrasonic signal into audible frequencies and transmits these to headphones.

For use in dark ambient conditions, 5 LEDs are installed in the acoustic funnel, which are controlled by an ambient light sensor.

With a weight of just 600g, the UY000003 is also one of the lightest acoustic cameras on the market.

Potential savings in compressed air generation.

Considerable amounts of energy are consumed when generating compressed air. If there is a leak in a compressed air network, this always means additional energy costs, as a compressor requires more power just to equalize the air pressure in the consumption network.

 

 

With leakage detectors, you can not only detect leaks in a targeted manner, but also document all relevant information, including the costs incurred by a leak, which ultimately lead to potential savings by eliminating it.

The potential savings in compressed air generation are manifold, with up to 42% attributable to the identification and elimination of leaks. Around 12% can be saved by designing the pneumatic system accordingly, including a multi-pressure pipe network. Heat recovery and the use of compressors with variable motor speed each account for 10% of savings. Finally, other measures account for 26%.

With the robust and handy UYKS0001 hard cases for the UY000002 leak detector and UYKS0002 for the UY000003 leak detector, everything is safely stowed away and always ready to hand in one place. Inside the cases there are foam inlays for storing the devices and accessories. The contents of both cases are identical except for the two leak detectors. The UY000003 has an UltraCam with 30 digital MEMS microphones and an ambient light sensor with additional LEDs for inspection in dark environments. PARABOL MIRROR VY000024

 

The acoustic funnels of the UY000002 and UY000003 leak detectors can optionally be replaced with a parabolic mirror to detect leaks even from greater distances. By focusing the ultrasonic waves in the parabolic mirror, even small leaks with compressed air losses of 0.8 l/min can be precisely localized from a distance of 10...15 m (± 15 cm). The special shape of the parabolic reflector ensures that only ultrasonic waves from the targeted leakage are detected, thus minimizing interference noise.

 

The software integrated in the UY000002 and UY000003 automatically calculates the costs caused by the leakage on the basis of the escaping air volume if the corresponding data has been stored beforehand.
