Rugged IO-Link ultrasonic sensor from IPF
There are several good reasons why the tried-and-true ultrasonic transducer UT210170 is now being replaced by the new ultrasonic sensor UT210570 from IPF. Since the UT210570—now featuring an IO-Link interface—is virtually identical in design to its predecessor, a simple replacement is straightforward.
At the same time, the UT210570 with a longer sensing range of up to 250 mm (previously 200 mm) and a variety of technical innovations. Here are the most important ones:
User-friendly, secure configuration: As with its predecessor, the diffuse reflection sensor is easily set via teach-in or via the white core of the 4-pin M8 connection cable. However, teaching now requires a ferromagnetic tool (e.g., a screwdriver or Allen wrench), which prevents accidental misoperation, such as unintentionally pressing a teach button. If the sensor remains connected to the operating voltage for approx. 5 minutes after the teach-in, the teach function is automatically locked. Teaching can only be performed again once the sensor has been disconnected from the voltage supply. Clearly visible LEDs for the operating voltage and switching state, visible from all sides, also facilitate status monitoring during start-up and operation.
Push-pull output: A universal push-pull switching output now offers high flexibility in signal processing. The output is PNP- and NPN-compatible and is easily switchable from normally open to normally closed (nc).
Digital communication with great potential: The IO-Link interface of the UT210570 enables bidirectional communication with modern control systems and provides a range of diagnostic information. In addition, the interface offers new possibilities for object detection. Along with limit value monitoring—as with the previous model (where the object’s position is above or below the set limit value)—range monitoring is now adjustable, allowing users to define a window within which object recognition is to occur. The corresponding hysteresis settings are also adjustable via IO-Link.
Mechanical Optimization: True Innovations of the UT210570 include the particularly robust metal connector and the metal guide sleeves (mounting holes reinforced with metal bushings) for fastening, which further enhance the sensor’s durability.
Thanks to its compact design (degree of protection IP67), the UT210570 is used in demanding industrial environments, particularly for level measurement in small containers or for object detection in automated conveyor systems, to name just a few examples.
