Handheld solution from ipf locates leaks during running operation

The UY000001 from ipf electronic is a handheld device for the targeted detection of leaks in compressed air networks, which can save considerable energy costs. The solution can also be used on gas and steam pipes as well as vacuum systems. Compressed air is one of the most expensive industrial resources due to the energy required to generate it. Nevertheless, around 80 percent of all companies waste around 50 percent of their compressed air every year due to leaks in consumption networks. If at all, the sound of air escaping from a leak in a line or connection can only be heard via the ear. As a rule, however, such signs are not even registered due to loud ambient noise in production. As a result, a compressor system in continuous operation has to constantly compensate for the loss of compressed air, which leads to enormously high and unnecessary energy costs.

 

Leak detection with camera, microphone and headphones

With the leak detector UY000001 from ipf electronic, it is now possible to specifically locate such leaks during running operation. The handheld solution consists of a microphone with ultrasonic transducer, a camera with color display, a switching funnel, a directional tube for pinpoint detection of the smallest leaks in confined spaces and headphones.

 

Targeted detection from a great distance

Compressed air leaks in consumer networks generate noise in the ultrasonic range. If the leak detector is pointed via the camera at an area where a leak is suspected to be located, the ultrasonic waves of the escaping compressed air are bundled using the sound funnel and recorded via the microphone. An integrated laser pointer (laser class 2) can also be used to precisely target the leak. The ultrasonic waves are converted into audible frequencies and transmitted to the headphones. Due to the approval in the ultrasonic range, disturbing ambient noise can be largely suppressed, with the headphones additionally reducing the background noise. The UY000001 enables users to locate barely audible and undetectable leaks from several meters away, pinpoint even the smallest leaks if necessary and achieve enormous savings in energy costs by eliminating them.

 

Display of pressure loss and annual costs

Once a leak has been found, the integrated color display shows the respective pressure loss in l/min. If the costs per liter or cubic meter of compressed air were previously stored in the device, the annual costs caused by the leak can also be shown on the display in a freely selectable currency. All collected measurement results and additional information, including a picture of the leak location, can be stored in the device, transferred to a PC via USB stick and then evaluated via software for complete documentation. The software also enables the creation of detailed environmental management reports in accordance with ISO 50001.

 

Modular solution for flexible use

A gooseneck microphone and a parabolic mirror microphone are available as optional modular system solutions. While the gooseneck version is suitable for pinpointing leaks in hard-to-reach places from very short distances, the parabolic mirror system (camera and laser pointer are already integrated) can be used to detect leaks from long distances (max. 12 meters).
