Extremely short, powerful and precise

New IO-Link optical sensors from IPF in M18

Optical sensors such as through-beam sensors, retro-reflective sensors or diffuse-reflection sensors have been indispensable in many branches of industry for decades. The M18x1 housing design has also been established for a long time. However, technical progress does not stop at tried and tested solutions. IPF is therefore launching a range of optical sensors with M18x1 threaded housings, which offer some new and interesting features.

The new products are available in four solutions, which offer significantly higher sensing and operating ranges compared to previous sensors in this design: Through-beam sensor consisting of transmitter OS189020 and receiver OE189420 with a range of 25m, retro-reflective sensor OR189420 (range 5.5m) with polarization filter and diffuse-reflection sensors with intensity differentiation OT189420 (sensing range 1000mm) or background suppression for virtually surface-independent object detection OT189421 (sensing range 210mm). All sensors are connected via a 4-pin M12-connector.

At first sight, the extremely short housings with a length of just 37mm are particularly striking, enabling a very space-saving installation. The housings are flattened on two sides so that the operating elements are more easily accessible and the sensors can be installed more easily in suitable threaded holes. Thanks to the combination of stainless steel housing and PMMA front panel, the devices can also be used in food processing, for example.

All sensor variants now have an antivalent switching output, which means that normally open and normally closed contacts are available at the same time.

Also new are the optical elements made of powerful red light LEDs, which are characterized in particular by a small, sharply defined light spot for particularly precise queries and easy installation and adjustment.

In addition, all new sensors have an IO-Link interface for particularly application-specific parameterization. For example, the switching outputs can be switched from normally open to normally closed function or the pick-up and drop-out delays can be parameterized. The through-beam sensors also have an adjustable modulation frequency so that several sensors installed in parallel do not interfere with each other.
