Simple integration into the Ethernet

Adapter enables retrofitting of sensors

The Ethernet adapter VKSI0297 is an extremely practical solution with which a range of sensors from ipf electronic can be easily integrated into industrial communication. The adapter is therefore also ideal for retrofitting devices that are already in use.

Colour, contrast and line sensors from ipf electronic have an RS232 interface for parameterization. The Ethernet adapter VKSI0297 uses this connection to convert the serial data signal into an Ethernet signal (RS232/LAN). This enables users to integrate a large number of devices into the local network or the Internet with a simple, uncomplicated solution.

All color, contrast or line sensors from the Lüdenscheid-based sensor specialist that integrate an M5 4-pin round connector for the RS232 interface are generally compatible with the Ethernet adapter. In particular, these are the color sensors of the OF34, OF50, OF51, OF63 and OF65. From the portfolio of contrast sensors, e.g. the OK630180 (fiber optic device) or the OK639196 can be connected to the adapter. In the case of line sensors, the forked light barriers PG400145 or the separate systems consisting of the transmitter PS500040 and receiver PE500145 should be mentioned. In addition, the new PT64 series laser triangulation probes, which ipf electronic will be presenting for the first time at the Hannover Messe, are also compatible with the Ethernet adapter.

Thanks to the possibility of making the sensors Ethernet-compatible with simple means, the VKSI0297 offers a number of advantages. For example, any number of devices can be controlled from just one PC via the network (signal bundling) or a specific sensor can be addressed by different PCs via the entire local network (signal distribution). In addition, the Ethernet adapter can be used to remove the existing length limitation of the connection cables of the sensors, due to the RS232 interface, to a certain extent.

The configuration of the Ethernet adapters for each individual device is extremely simple using the free "SensorFinder" software, as it enables the clear assignment, overview and setting of the individual adapters.

The Ethernet adapters can be used to convert data rates up to a maximum of 115.2kBaud, with Auto-MDI-X technology facilitating the communication setup, as network devices with this

standard recognize the transmitter and receiver cable pair and automatically connect them internally. A crossover cable tail is therefore not required. In addition, the VKSI0297 is DHCP-capable so that it can be automatically assigned an IP address by a DHCP server. Alternatively, a static IP address can also be used.

The Ethernet adapter VKSI0297 is also suitable for use in harsh environmental conditions thanks to its robust aluminum housing with degree of protection IP67 and has both an M5 4-pin round plug for communication with color, contrast and line sensors from ipf electronic, as well as an M12 (D-coded) socket for connection to an external CAT5 cable tail.

The LEDs integrated in the housing are used to visualize various status messages.
