New function for OC53 with Profinet from ipf

Calibrate camera sensors even more easily

For the camera sensors of the OC53 camera sensors from ipf electronic are constantly finding new areas of application. This is made possible above all by free, powerful parameterization software, which is constantly being expanded. The latest release of the software for the monochrome cameras in the OC53 monochrome cameras with Profinet connection now includes some new, extremely practical functions.

There are always applications in which a camera sensor from the OC53 camera sensor cannot be installed exactly perpendicular via an inspection area to be detected, e.g. when using a robot arm for material handling or to avoid reflections when detecting shiny or reflective materials (e.g. inquiry of barcodes under film packaging).

Automatic correction of perspective effects

If a OC53 is mounted at a certain bracket to an object to be inspected, this leads to distortion of the camera image and thus to deviations in the inspection results, which previously had to be corrected with some effort via the parameterization software. With the help of a so-called calibration target, however, the camera position can now be easily taught in. The calibration target is placed under the device and aligned after the camera has been mounted. At the touch of a button, a OC53 can then be calibrated at the touch of a button, with the camera automatically rectifying the recorded image in real time. By using the calibration plate and world coordinates, it is also possible to easily convert pixels to a measuring unit.

Integrated shadow correction

Another useful new feature in this context is the integrated shadow correction to compensate for an inhomogeneous brightness distribution on an object to be detected. Such shadow effects are caused, for example, by different operating distances of the camera (tilting of the device) or by the camera lens and the illumination of the device. These effects can now also be corrected via the software at the touch of a button.

Identifying object positions

Last but not least, with the latest version of the parameterization software, the camera sensor is now able to find several similar objects in its search space based on a previously taught-in part and determine their position. This function is particularly interesting for robotics applications, e.g. bin picking, as the camera also checks object overlays and the gripper space of a robot. The number of objects can also be determined as an additional feature.

These and other new functions are available with instant effect for the monochrome cameras in the OC53 monochrome cameras with Profinet, both for the compact devices with integrated illumination and permanently installed object, as well as for the camera sensors with C-mount lens connection and integrated flash controller for controlling external illumination.
