Optical sensors with IO-Link

Intelligent device series complements ipf electronic's portfolio

ipf electronic is consistently expanding its portfolio of sensors with an IO-Link interface. During PLC (programmable logic controller), IPC, DRIVES, the sensor specialist will be presenting a new series of optical sensors with IO-Link.

The devices with an IO-Link interface are the optical sensors from the ON33, OT33, ON43, OT43 and ON45 and OT45. The range of solutions extends from diffuse reflection sensors with transmitter and receiver in one device (system components serve as reflectors) to diffuse reflection sensors, also with integrated transmitter and receiver (transmitted light beam is reflected by the object to be detected). Thanks to the integrated background suppression, the devices in the OT33 and OT45 series are ideal for reliably detecting objects with strongly changing surface colors and for blanking out components in the background. The diffuse reflection sensors in the OT43 series, on the other hand, convert the object distance into a distance-proportional measuring signal.

The sensors are available in a total of three sizes: ON33 and OT33 (39x13x23mm), ON43 (43x14.8x32.5mm), OT43 (43x14.8x36.5mm) and ON45 and OT45 (56x18x32mm). The maximum switching distances of the devices range from 300 to 800mm.

All devices have a degree of protection of IP67 and are suitable for use in ambient temperatures from -25°C to +60°C (ON33, OT33, ON45, OT45), -30°C to +60°C (ON43) and 0° C to +50° C (OT43). The active surface of the sensors is made of plastic (ASA or PMMA).

The new optical sensors are absolutely identical to the device series without IO-Link interface in terms of their design and technical properties. The IO-Link-capable new products can therefore be replaced very easily by optical sensors from ipf electronic that are already in use.

With the replacement, the application receives a future-oriented sensor solution that integrates additional intelligence and is therefore able, for example, to transmit process and diagnostic data to a higher-level control (unit) and can be parameterized during running operation. Further advantages of IO-Link-capable sensor solutions are simple, problem-free wiring without special requirements and cost-efficient standardization through devices that can be easily replaced via plug & play.
