What can be achieved when compromises are sometimes made in order to significantly improve other device properties is demonstrated by ipf with its optical OTQ4-series.
The switching distance of these extremely small sensors is fixed, which enables very precise background suppression with excellent contrast behavior. The sensors should not be underestimated due to their size: when they are in their comfort zone, they switch to the thickness of white paper. And as the optical diffuse reflection sensors can be hidden in almost any corner, they can also be used for applications in harsher environments. If the sensor is located in an aluminum profile, for example, you no longer have to worry about parts of the production process going astray and destroying the sensor. Ultimately, this saves time and money.
To evaluate the sensor signals, versions with a closer behavior (OTQ40170) or inverted (OTQ40270) are available. These versions can be integrated into the control (unit) via a 4-pin, 200mm long cable connector. If you only have short distances, you can use the OTQ40100 which is equipped with a 2m long PVC cable. To expand the potential applications, the sensors are also available with switching distances of 30 and 50mm. The rule is: less is more
