Flexibility all along the line
Less with more. This sums up the key feature of the new multifunctional light section sensors from ipf electronic. The features: the contactless laser sensors are very versatile in terms of potential applications and can therefore be used extremely flexibly. The new range of multifunctional light section sensors consists of a total of seven devices (PY740020, PY740021, PY740025, PY740026, PT740020, PT740021 and PY74002A) with a degree of protection of IP67, which are all based on the same measuring principle and are absolutely identical in their design. As the systems operate in scanning mode, the devices do not require a contamination-sensitive reflector or a counter element such as a receiver.
Distance-independent edge measurement
The PY740020 and PY740021 with operating distances of 75mm to 150mm and 150mm to 250mm respectively determine the position of object edges independently of distance. The sensors have properties that previously only complex laser measuring systems could offer, but are as easy to operate as a diffuse reflection sensor. Both devices measure the exact distance values to the object surface along their laser line and calculate the positions of object edges using an intelligent algorithm. This data is then used to determine the position of an edge or the distance or gap between two edges. Thanks to the integrated coordinate transformation, the PY740020 and PY740021, like almost all devices in the series, can also be positioned laterally via an object at a bracket of ±30°. These sensors can be used, for example, in double sheet metal inspection in metal processing, in web edge control or in gap control, e.g. when checking the correct closure of canton packaging.
Plenty of freedom for height measurement
The PY740025 (operating distance 100mm - 150mm) and PY740026 (operating distance 100mm - 500mm) are ideal for versatile use in the field of quality assurance. With a high resolution of up to 2μm, they determine the heights of objects or the object profile with a total of five key figures: the maximum, minimum and average object height, the delta height value (e.g. to identify defective products due to a deviating shape) and the standard deviation via all recorded height information. By intelligently linking the key figures, these devices enable direct evaluation in applications in which objects need to be certified and NOK products need to be sorted out immediately.
Distance measurement for demanding surfaces
The PT740020 and PT740021, on the other hand, are recommended for reliable distance measurements even on demanding surfaces that are inhomogeneously shiny (not reflective) or extremely rough. With operating distances of a minimum of 100mm and a maximum of 150mm or 500mm, a high resolution of up to 2μm and measurement frequencies of up to 1540Hz, these laser distance sensors deliver very precise and always repeatable measurement results without the use of external software or time-consuming conversions. This makes these devices ideal for high-precision measuring and inspection applications, e.g. on shiny molded parts or objects with very rough surfaces.
High flexibility for measuring round objects
The range of light section sensors is completed by the PY74002A, which was designed for measuring round objects with outer diameters of 30 mm to 130 mm. The sensor has a total of five different measuring modes: center point, diameter and highest measuring point of an object (apex) as well as right and left outer position. Potential areas of application for the PY74002A include measuring the diameter of metal pipes, positioning round containers (e.g. yogurt pots) during filling or determining the center point as a reference for surface coatings.
All multifunctional light section sensors from ipf electronic have an operating temperature range of -10° C to +50° C and are insensitive even to varying ambient light influences.
