Security with intelligence

The safety light curtains (category 4) of the OY32 (finger and hand protection) and OY36 (body protection) series from ipf electronic can be optionally equipped with a muting function. This means that safety light curtains already in use can also be retrofitted.

Muting is a method of automatically deactivating the protective function of a safety light curtain for a short time during a cycle in order to transport goods unhindered into a protected area. The OY32 and OY36 safety light curtains from ipf electronic can be extended for this purpose with the AO98A980 muting relay and muting sensors. If conveyed goods pass a light curtain, the muting sensors must generate a specific signal sequence to start the muting cycle.

Both sequential and cross muting can be implemented with the optional accessories for the light curtains. With sequential muting, several sensors switched in sequence (two before and two after the protected field) are activated one after the other by the conveyed material within the protected field. Cross muting requires only two sensors whose detection range is arranged in a cross shape. The muting cycle starts when both sensors in front of the safety light curtain are activated by the conveyed goods.

The maximum permissible duration of the muting process can be set in ten stages from 10s to infinity. The muting cycle of the light curtains is also signaled via a muting lamp.

The OY32 safety light curtains for finger and hand protection are available with protected field heights of 150 to 1800mm and a resolution of 14mm as well as a range of up to 6m (finger protection) or with a resolution of 30mm and a range of up to 19m (hand protection). The safety light curtains for body protection (OY36) are available with protected field heights of 500, 800, 900 and 1200mm (range up to 50m), with the light curtains integrating two to four light axes depending on the model.
