VL31: Compact logic modules now with IO-Link

The ipf logic modules, which logically link the outputs of several sensors, have been around for over 25 years. This is necessary, for example, in clamping fixtures in which the clamped part is scanned for correct positioning at several points. Scanning all sensors with the PLC means longer cycle times and a high demand for inputs and signal lines. With the help of our logic modules, the outputs of the sensors can be AND- or OR-linked on site; exactly one cable is required to connect the module to the controller.

 

In recent years, logic distributors with M12 or M8 slots have become increasingly important. As a result these series have been continuously developed further. Two years ago, the VL610304 and VL610308 were the first logic distributors with an IO-Link interface to be launched on the market, in which the logic link of each output is freely programmable (see ipf Info 02/2022).

 

IO-Link technology is now also finding its way into the M8 distributors. As with the M12 counterparts, there are two versions: VL310304 with 4 and VL310308 with 8 three-pin M8 slots. A 5-pin M12-connector serves as the connection for the bus line. When delivered, the PNP switching output for the AND linking of all inputs is located on PIN 4 and that for the OR linking on PIN 2 of the connector.

Both switching outputs can be set as required using an IO-Link master (e.g. VY000005). For example, inputs that are not required can be deactivated or the linking types of each slot can be selected as required. It is also possible to work with a virtual group logic.

 

In addition to the familiar AND and OR logics, a third type of logic operation is also available: AND-SW additionally monitors the signal change of each input so that malfunctions or material jamming are detected at an early stage. The switching outputs can be switched to PNP/NPN. Both normally open and normally closed contacts can be selected as the switching function. If the signal is routed via a mechanical contact, a debounce function with various settling times is also available. (gr)
