Laser sensor with very long range

New solution with laser protection class 1 from ipf

With the PT230020 ipf electronic presents a laser sensor with a highly visible laser light spot in laser protection class 1, which can be used to achieve very long ranges of up to 5 meters for distance measurements.

The new device is available with degrees of protection IP67 / IP69k and works according to the Time-of-Flight principle, i.e. the pulsed measurement of a light pulse from the sensor transmitter to the receiver via a certain distance. A particular advantage of this method is that the range or switching distance of the laser sensor is largely independent of the reflective properties of an object surface. This means that not only shiny surfaces, but also dark objects can be detected very well with the new product from ipf electronic if they reflect sufficient light.

The setting of the new laser sensor is done via teach-in, whereby either the analog output provides a distance-proportional output signal of 4...20mA or the presence of an object can be taught in via the switching output of the device. The device achieves a switching frequency of ≤250Hz and an analog output update rate of 2ms. Accordingly, the sensor is able to output a measured value up to 500 times per second.

As the laser sensor also has an IO-Link interface, nothing stands in the way of seamless integration into Industrial Ethernet.
