Linear and angular measurement - magnetic
Magnetic measuring systems are used to measure distances or rotational movements. In magnetic measurement systems, the sensor moves contactless over a flexible magnetic tape or is positioned via a rotating magnetized measuring wheel. The magnetic tape is applied to a 0.3-millimeter-thick steel carrier layer or is located on the circumference of the various measuring wheels. The magnetization is performed with defined pole pitches. Via scanning the magnetic poles, a signal is generated that is converted into digital square wave signals, which are processed by downstream electronics and can be displayed as needed. The sensor system recognizes the pitch of the tape and converts the information into high-resolution displacement or rotational data. No direct contact is required to read the magnetic field lines. Magnetic sensors are resistant to soiling, oils, and moisture, and are relatively stable under shock and vibration. This opens up a wide range of applications for the user, e.g. in equipment and systems in the wood industry, material handling, on linear axes, in outdoor environments, or on machine tools.
